The Project

Whilst spending a few days holiday on Jinack Island in 2006 we saw the beauty and uniqueness of this paradise island, as well as the hardship and poverty of the people living there. During our stay we met Amadou Manneh, a local villager who had been welcoming tourists to the island for many years. He expressed his desire to open a lodge which would benefit the island and it's people directly, but due to the standard low wage in Gambia it was an impossibility. After several conversations with Amadou and the elders of the village, we agreed to work in partnership with Amadou to create Jinack Lodge.

Over the last three years, we have worked closely with the villagers and local craftsmen to clear a 200x120metre site on the beach front. We have erected four en-suite lodges, an 18x18metre Reception area, built two traditional hand-crafted boats, installed solar power, planted vegetable gardens and constructed a purpose built off-site well with a solar powered water pump.

Our vision for Jinack Lodge is that it becomes a popular and well used place to stay, unique in it's peaceful and restoring qualities and run and maintained to the highest possible standards. We hope to genuinely benefit the people of Jinack who have shown so much kindness, as well as spirit and dedication, to the development of the project.
